Integrated nanophotonics

In modern telecommunications systems, information is transmitted as optical signals through optical fibers. However, signals are processed using electronic components that have reached their maximum performance limits, complicating the processing of growing data volumes. We can overcome these limitations by replacing these electronic components with integrated nanophotonic components and creating an optical chip based on different physical principles. This would increase both bandwidth and data transmission speed.

The core element of optical chips is a nanoscale light source that emits in the visible or infrared spectrum. Efficient technologies for collecting, amplifying, and guiding this radiation are required. However, conventional fabrication methods for such nanostructures suffer from certain problems, including the need for cleanrooms and challenging integration of light emitters with nanoscale structures. Therefore, one of the key scientific objectives in this field is the development of new emitting nanostructures and methods that do not rely on traditional technologies such as electron beam lithography. To address these challenges, new methods must be more efficient and less dependent on specialized equipment. For this reason, our group is developing integrated nanophotonics methods and elements for the implementation of optical chips.
