Today, scientists from all over the world face the task of creating optical switches. These devices will allow for transmitting information in binary code with the help of light, which in the future will be useful for the development of ultrafast optical memory cells.
The concept is based on the interaction of resonant semiconductor iron oxide Fe2O3 nanoparticles with light. They can get heated locally by a laser and convert the absorbed light into heat.
Starting from the new academic year, Master’s and PhD students at ITMO University will be given the opportunity to participate in academic exchanges and internships at the University of Lorraine (Université de Lorraine, UL), one of France’s largest and highest-rated universities.
Alexandre Nominé came to ITMO University from France to work at the University’s Metamaterials Laboratory as a materials scientist. In the course of his career he has worked in various field of physics including plasma physics and synthesizing nanoparticles. We spoke with Dr.
