The combination of graphene and related layered compounds provides an opportunity to fabricate van der Waals heterostructures: a new class of materials with tunable optical properties. The report will be devoted to the uncommon properties of plasmons in these structures: from deep subwavelength confinement of electromagnetic field to the possibility of quantum cascade plasmonic lasing.
