‘Shaping the spectrum of light with timevariant nanostructures’

Abstract: Nanotechnology offers ways to sculpt matter in three dimensions, enabling novel optical materials that are not readily available. While nanostructures’ properties are mostly predefined by fabrication, temporal modulation can be leveraged as an additional degree of freedom for light control. We will discuss several intriguing implications of time variance in designer nanostructures, such as photon acceleration and overcoming the time-bandwidth limit. The talk will conclude with an experimental demonstration of broadband negative optical extinction and outline the potential applications of time-variant nanostructures in attoscience and quantum computing.
