Microwave cavities are promising tools for axion dark matter detection, where uniform fields are essential for sensitivity. I will show how introducing a simple air gap in wire-medium–filled cavities allows precise control of field homogeneity. In particular, a quarter-plasma-wavelength gap yields highly uniform fields, offering a straightforward route to improved cavity performance.
