'Modeling of one-dimensional metamaterial unit cells with asymmetric resonators'
Abstract: Guided-wave structures based on metamaterials, which represent transmission lines or waveguides periodically loaded with sub-wavelength resonators, have found many applications in microwave engineering. In this talk, asymmetric resonant elements will be presented, which do not possess mirror symmetry plane, and may exhibit additional resonant modes. Three methods for their modeling and characterization will be demonstrated: effective medium model and extraction of corresponding parameters, approximation using equivalent electric circuits with lumped elements and application of coupled-mode theory to approximate scattering spectra.
