Induction heating and levitation of molten metals
Abstract

I will talk about the electromagnetic processing of materials, mainly the application of alternating magnetic field on (liquid) metals. The lecture will focus on induction heating and levitation which will be examined theoretically along with experimental demonstrations. These examples naturally lead us to magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) which terrestrially governs flows from the earth's core to metallurgical processes. Our experimental research finds applications in the light-alloy industry where for example aluminum can be stirred and transported contactless with magnetic field.
