We will discuss simple yet illustrative examples of how Floquet theory and other related tools can be used to model periodic structures and predict pass- and stop-bands. We will cover three main topics: classical Floquet theory, simplifying computations using symmetric cell eigenfrequencies, and adapting Floquet theory for non-linear models and models in polar coordinates.
