Postdoc in the area of quantum dynamics and electrodynamics

The Faculty of Physics of ITMO University invites a postdoc to join the team and work in the area of quantum dynamics and electrodynamics.

The postdoc will play a leading role in theoretical research in the areas of quantum electrodynamics, atomic physics, quantum optics, particle physics, and accelerator physics. Emphasis will be placed on high-energy physics with wave packets with angular momentum (“twisted” particles: photons, electrons, neutrons, etc.), quantum and coherence effects in radiation and scattering, including in strong electromagnetic fields, atoms, and matter. The employee will develop theoretical models and perform simulations in a package (Mathlab, Mathematica, etc.). Background in quantum electrodynamics calculations in the Furry picture, heavy ion physics, weak processes and/or perturbative quantum chromodynamics will be an advantage. If desired, the postdoc can also participate in experiments on electron microscopes and particle accelerators, including joint projects with the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna). The employee is also expected to actively participate in preparing grant applications.

  • a PhD degree or a Russian degree: Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences; 
  • work experience in theoretical physics and particle physics: quantum electrodynamics, including in external fields, desired experience in calculations of weak processes and/or perturbative quantum chromodynamics;
  • software packages skills: for instance, MATLAB / Comsol/ CST; programming skills in Python or another program are not necessary, but they would be an advantage;
  • experience of supervising students and/or PhD students; 
  • experience of presenting at international conferences in English;
  • knowledge of English: B2 (Upper-Intermediate) or a higher level; 
  • information analysis skills and decision-making skills, pursuit of excellence; 
  • being proactive and result-oriented;  
  • papers published in high-rated journals (IF > 2), including papers as a first author (1-2 per year) or as a corresponding author; 
  • experience in submitting grant applications and leading grants;
  • at least two years of work experience abroad is desirable.
