Junior researcher in the area of acoustics

The Faculty of Physics of ITMO University is a creative synergy of professors, young ambitious researchers and students. Our team began as a small laboratory and has grown into a large scientific and educational center in 10 years of collaborative work. Today, we work in advanced research areas and implement relevant educational programs. We invite a junior researcher to join the acoustic group of our Faculty.

The employee will work on numerical and experimental research in the areas of elastic vibrations, sound, and ultrasound under the guidance of leading researchers of the scientific center. The employee's tasks will include theoretical description of phenomena, creation of numerical models in modern simulation packages (COMSOL and others), planning and conducting experimental studies.

At the Faculty, the following areas of acoustic research are currently being developed:

  • fundamental acoustics (high-quality resonators, topological acoustics, acoustics of variable media);
  • aeroacoustics (metamaterials for controlling acoustic waves);
  • acoustic mechanics (acoustic forces, acoustic levitation)
  • acousto-electronics and acousto-optics (acoustic biosensors, fiber-optic ultrasonic hydrophones);
  • medical acoustics (processing of biomedical signals, wireless charging of implants).

It is possible to open new or related topics.

  • work on current research projects and publication of papers;
  • participation in educational activities (teaching practical classes, supervising projects of Bachelor’s students);
  • applying for grants, scholarships, awards;
  • supervising a student;
  • representing the Faculty and sharing the results of work at conferences and meetings.

  • a Master's/specialist degree in technical physics and/or theoretical physics;
  • willingness to enroll in a PhD program;
  • high grades in major courses at the university;
  • knowledge of English: Upper Intermediate or a higher level;
  • good communication skills, proactivity, teamwork skills, high level of responsibility and time management;
  • well-developed systemic thinking skills;
  • sharing our principles and values;
  • experience in modeling the propagation of elastic waves at a basic level;
  • work experience in a scientific laboratory will be an advantage;
  • experience of speaking at conferences will be an advantage;
  • experience in publishing scientific results will be an advantage.

  • the results of the work will be published in highly ranked journals and can become the foundation for a PhD thesis;
  • young and professional team of Faculty employees, friendly environment;
  • active collaboration with leading researchers around the world: USA, Europe, Asia, and Australia;
  • internships in top research groups around the world;
  • opportunity to travel to international conferences, as well as to visit foreign colleagues starting from the first year of PhD school;
  • opportunities to increase your salary during your studies by winning PhD scholarships and grants;
  • team building activities: weekly volleyball with colleagues, table tennis, New Year's corporate party, etc;
  • continuous development: free foreign language courses, the possibility of advanced professional development (seminars, internships, and trainings with covered costs);
  • psychological support for employees: psychological consultations, coaching sessions, relaxation and meditation sessions;
  • work in the historic center of St. Petersburg;
  • the possibility of free education for ITMO employees in more than 76 Master's programs;
