PhD student position in the area of accelerator physics and quantum mechanics

The Faculty of Physics of ITMO University invites a PhD student to join the team and work at the intersection of accelerator physics and quantum physics.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity of collaboration and work on the project on the unique accelerator of twisted electrons at the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, Dubna.

The project includes theoretical calculations and simulations of the dynamics of electron beams and individual wave packets in a linear accelerator, calculations and development of an optical table for laser injection into an electron photo gun, calculation of magnetic fields of the focusing system of the accelerator, and the development of a microwave photo-electron source.

The main part of the experimental work will be carried out on a linear accelerator and test bench at the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. During the preparation and implementation of the experiments, business trips to Dubna are expected. The successful candidate will actively participate in the experiments and their preparation.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will:

  • work on current research projects and publish scientific papers;
  • submit applications for grants, scholarships, awards;
  • represent the Faculty and share the results of their work at conferences and meetings.

Requirements

  • good grades in major subjects;
  • experience of work in a research group or research work in similar area;
  • conference presentation experience;
  • experience in the development of resonant microwave systems;
  • skills in CST Particle Studio software or its analogues;
  • experience in the development of design documentation;
  • knowledge of English: B1 (Intermediate) or a higher level;
  • experience with equipment/participation in experiments;
  • information analysis skills and decision-making skills;
  • proactivity;
  • result orientation.
