Postdoc in Computational Physics
We are looking for a motivated young researcher to join the Faculty of Physics team in a postdoc position in computational physics: a PhD student in the final year of PhD school or a scientist who has recently defended a PhD thesis. Within this position, the researcher will work in the area of computational electrodynamics and develop modelling methods for multiphysics processes, write scientific papers, teach major subjects, supervise scientific work of students, apply for grants and work on them.
Responsibilities
- Attracting financing, individually and together with colleagues: applying for grants, search for commercial partners (willingness to lead a grant team would be an advantage);
- Publishing scientific papers;
- Giving lectures or seminars within the educational track of computational physics (special courses for third- or fourth-year Bachelor’s students, or for Master’s students)
- Talks at conferences and seminars;
- Active participation in the life of the Faculty, organization of summer schools and events for students and PhD students.
Requirements
- A PhD degree (or a Russian degree: Candidate of physical and mathematical sciences), or being a PhD student in the final year of PhD school in the area of physics and mathematics, or engineering sciences;
- Working experience in a scientific educational organisation in the area of mathematical or computational physics;
- Knowledge of English: B2 (Upper-Intermediate) or a higher level;
- Papers published in high-rated journals (Q1), including papers as a first author or as a corresponding author (at least 1-2 per year);
- Recommendations from the leader of the research team where the applicant worked on their PhD thesis, or from the supervisor from the previous job in the applicant’s degree field;
- Information analysis and decision-making skills, systemic thinking, proactivity, determination, and interpersonal skills;
- Demonstration of strong programming skills in C++/Python, experience of work in Matlab, Comsol, or CST would be an advantage;
- Experience of supervising students and/or PhD students would be an advantage;
- Experience of presenting at international conferences would be an advantage;
- Experience in submitting grant applications and leading grants would be an advantage;
- Personal scholarships, awards, internships, joint programs would be an advantage;
- Working experience abroad in the applicant’s degree field would be an advantage.
