Noncollinear electro-optic sampling of terahertz waves by ultrashort laser pulses in cm-thick crystals
Abstract

The results of a dissertation work on noncollinear electro-optic sampling of pulsed terahertz radiation by femtosecond laser pulses in cm-thick electro-optic crystals will be presented. Using cm-thick crystals allowed us to achieve experimentally the spectral resolution as high as several GHz. Three different noncollinear experimental schemes will be discussed, i.e., ellipsometric and nonellipsometric schemes with a thick GaAs crystal and the probe optical beam of the 1.55 μm wavelength and an ellipsometric scheme with a LiNbO3 crystal attached to a Si prism and the probe beam of the 1.55 μm or 0.8 μm wavelength.
