Description of the electronic structure of atoms and molecules is required for applied problems, such as the synthesis of new drugs and materials, as well as for fundamental science. Meanwhile, accurate calculation of multi-electron systems remains an extremely challenging and, in many cases, impossible task. The obstacle lies in the exponential growth of the configuration space with an increase in the number of electrons. Quantum computers can become a radical solution to this problem. Calculations on such devices, however, require completely new approaches. The development of such approaches will be discussed in the present talk.
