The seminar will present the theoretical and experimental results on the implementation of synthetic multi-dimensional photonics on planar integrated all-optical platforms. A general and practical approach for mapping arbitrary multi-dimensional tight-binding lattices to a planar lattice, where the excitation dynamics remains exactly equivalent, will be introduced. The planar lattices obtained through such mapping from four- and higher-dimensional structures can demonstrate dramatically enhanced optical switching and sensing characteristics. The features of optically-induced lattices based on nonlinear frequency conversion which can represent complex multi-dimensional dynamics, where the effective high-dimensional lattice structure can be changed dynamically by tuning the optical pump spectrum, will also be discussed.
