Traditional materials for optical components (and their manufacturing methods) are glass (grinding and polishing, molding) and thermoplastics (injection molding). The introduction of ultra-violet (UV) light curable materials, traditionally known as adhesives and glues, have opened novel manufacturing methods for optics, such as roll-to-roll manufacturing by patterning thin layers of UV curable material on top of thin foil, wafer-level optics and 3D printed optics.
