Integrated photonic devices have recently emerged as a promising platform for optical computing, particularly in hardware acceleration of artificial intelligence (AI) tasks. Among various approaches, architectures based on phase-change materials (PCMs) have gained significant attention due to their reconfigurability and non-volatile operation, which are essential for practical applications. This talk will provide an overview of integrated photonic architectures for analog optical computing, emphasizing the transition from device-level design and optimization to system-level performance and energy efficiency evaluation. Special focus will be given to PCM-based crossbar architectures, including design considerations and simulation results for nanophotonic weight element implementation.
