PhD student in project «Modeling the optical properties of quantum materials from the first principles»

The Faculty of Physics of ITMO University invites a PhD student to join the team and work on the project «Modeling the optical properties of quantum materials from the first principles». The project is focused on the modeling of the properties of quantum two-dimensional materials for optoelectronic applications, and developing theoretical methodology and numerical algorithms for first-principles calculations. The project will be interesting to Master’s students proficient in numerical modeling, condensed matter physics, quantum chemistry, computational materials science, and high-performance computing. Experience in programming and numerical calculations in physics is desirable.


  • Work on current scientific projects and publishing scientific papers;
  • Teaching practical classes in Computational physics, supervising projects of Bachelor’s students;
  • Submitting applications for grants, scholarships, awards.


  • Basic physics or mathematics education;
  • Good grades in major subjects;
  • Experience of presenting at conferences;
  • Python programming skills;
  • Knowledge of English: B1 (Intermediate) or a higher level;
  • Well-developed information analysis skills and decision-making skills;
  • Well-developed skills of systematic thinking;
  • Ability to independently plan your own development, ask for feedback and improve your results based on it.

PhD salary corresponds to PhD sсholarship of international universities in Europe and the USA.
