Specialist in optical sensing and microfluidics

The Department of Physics and Engineering of ITMO University (Saint-Petersburg, Russia) opens a vacancy for a specialist in optical sensing and microfluidics (Postdoctoral or PhD student is welcomed).  The position is open in the framework of collaborative project between ITMO University and the leader in the field of laboratory research "Helix Laboratory Service".  


The project is aimed at creating new devices for optical sensing and microfluidics based on metasurfaces for their further commercial use in laboratory services.


We expect the candidate to fulfill the following requirements: 

  • successfully completed PhD or be close to its accomplishment (desirable, but not a prerequisite);
  • strong qualification in optical sensing and microfluidics;
  • publications demonstrating the ability for independent research;
  • experience in conducting independent projects, building effective and open interaction and cooperation within the group;
  • fluency in spoken and written English.

The Department of Physics and Engineering and is actively developing international research centre in optics and photonics, condensed matter physics, and microwave physics. Launched in 2000 under the Russian Federation program of excellence, today it hosts more than 300 researchers working in 5 international laboratories keeping the leading positions among Russian research institutions. The laboratories are equipped with the state-of-the-art optical setups, chemical synthesis and nanofabrication facilities.

The project will be running in tight collaboration with Helix Laboratory Service. Helix Laboratory Service has been working in the field of laboratory diagnostics since 1998. Currently, he is one of the leaders in laboratory diagnostics in Russia. More than 350 Diagnostic Centers and Laboratory Points have been opened under the Helix brand throughout the country. The Helix laboratory service performs analyzes for more than 2,000 private and public medical institutions, provides services to clients in 130 cities of Russia, has 3 technological sites with an area of ​​more than 6,000 square meters. m. in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg.
