SEM research engineer

The Department of Physics and Engineering of ITMO University is a creative synergy of honorary professors, ambitious scientists, and students. In a decade of joint work, we have grown from a small laboratory into a large international scientific center, where the most relevant scientific directions are developed, and educational programs are implemented. We are looking for a persevering and responsible specialist for the of an SEM research engineer position, who can quickly and independently solve emerging problems to ensure uninterrupted and high-quality experimental research.


  • conducting SEM-measurements on FEI Quanta Inspect scanning electron microscope;
  • conducting SEM-measurements on Carl Zeiss CrossBeam scanning electron microscope;
  • mask creation for thin-film etching based on electron-lithography method at Raith supplement for Carl Zeissscanning electron microscope;
  • realization of FIB-assisted etching;
  • development of new creation and technological postprocessing of nanostructures methods for nanophotonics and nanoelectronics;
  • e-beam nanomanipulation team exploration and using;
  • precursor gas material under the action of focused electron beam deposition;
  • SEM and SPM combining;
  • equipment maintenance and repair management If necessary;
  • equipment operation consultation;
  • control system for work on equipment and its condition organization;
  • regulations creation, providing briefings;  
  • monitoring of work carried out on equipment for which the engineer is responsible;
  • interaction with colleagues from resource centers of the Russian Federation in order to carry out the technological stages necessary for the manufacture of samples (magnetron/thermal/ALD thin-film evaporation, ion-assisted plasma etching etc.)


  • higher physical\applied physical\physical chemistry education or candidate of science degree;
  • electron microscope experience;
  • vacuum equipment experience;
  • technical documents skills;
  • English skills in reading and understanding technical literature; spoken English would be an asset;
  • projection systems skills (2D и 3D – AutoCAD, SolidWorks, и др.) and mask design for e-beam lithography skills (.gds) would be an asset;
  • nice to have e-beam lithography and FIB-assisted etching skills;
  • nice to have SPM skills;
