Planar dielectric PT - symmetric periodic structures
ABSTRACT: The report is devoted to the propagation of optical radiation in planar dielectric PT - symmetric periodic structures. The mechanisms of asymmetric transmission are revealed for various gain and loss levels, and the properties of optical bistability in such media are studied thoroughly. In a structure with modulation of the Kerr nonlinearity transitions between PT-symmetry states induced by high-intensity radiation are detected. The light pulse propagation in quasi – PT – symmetric structures are discussed also. The possibility of simultaneous compression (stretching) of light pulses reflected from chirped periodic structures with balanced gain and loss is shown.
